Thinking About Pregnancy

Learn how to prepare yourself for pregnancy.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Assessment

It is essential that you know how to contract your pelvic floor muscle before you become pregnant.

40% of women do not contract the correct muscles when attempting a pelvic floor squeeze.

During pregnancy your pelvic floor muscles stretch and weaken due to the weight of your baby pressing on the pelvic floor.

Your pelvic floor muscles are responsible for bladder and bowel control, for the pleasurable sensations when making love, for preventing vaginal prolapse and for balancing the pelvis throughout the day.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Dysfunction can lead to:

  • Bladder and bowel incontinence
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Painful intercourse
  • Decreased sensation when making love
  • Poor core strength and balance

Our highly qualified clinicians can help:

  • In depth assessment of Pelvic Floor
  • Individualised Pelvic Floor Muscle exercise programme
  • Progressive Pelvic Floor Muscle exercise programme
  • Lifestyle modifications
  • Healthy exercise options

Real-time ultra sound & bladder scanner

Real time ultra sound technology enables us to show you your pelvic floor & abdominal muscles moving.

Our real time ultra sound, which can also be used as a bladder scanner is extremely useful not only as a diagnostic tool but also to teach clients the correct way of contracting Pelvic Floor and lower abdominal muscles. The ultrasound is used as part of each new clients initial assessment (not used if you are pregnant). It is very rewarding for clients to actually see their Pelvic Floor muscles moving on contraction.

Contact us for a pelvic floor/abdominal assessment and see your muscles in action.

Abdominal Muscle Assessment

Abdominal muscle separation as your baby grows is normal during pregnancy. However your abdominal muscles support your spine and the extra weight of baby can weaken your abdominal muscles and give less support to your spine. Some of the signs of weakened abdominal muscles are :

Feeling a tenting or point of muscle down the length of your abdomen when sitting up

●  Feeling a gap between the muscles
●  Loose lax abdominal muscles
●  Having poor posture

Our highly qualified caring clinicians can help
● In depth assessment of your abdominal muscles
●  Individualised abdominal muscle exercise programme
●  Progression of your exercise programme as your muscles strengthen
●  Lifestyle modifications
●  Advice on exercise in pregnancy and post nata
